Reading the curve
How much light passes through as a polarizer turns?
Calculate how transmitted light changes as a polarizer turns.

Exploring physics. Sharing what I learn.
I'm a Class 12 student in India interested in light, measurement, and quantum physics. Alongside my research, I help Class 12 students living in orphanages prepare for JEE physics and mathematics. This site brings together my investigations, interactive models, and explanations.
Iα / Iref = cos²(α − φ)
q = I0° − I90° · u = I45° − I135°
φ = ½ atan2(u, q) × 180/π, normalised to [0°, 180°).
OPTICS COLLECTION
How much can we learn about light by measuring what passes through a filter? These four investigations approach that question through calculations, simulations, and interactive models.
Calculate how transmitted light changes as a polarizer turns.
Open investigationFind out why adding a filter between two crossed polarizers can let light through.

Open investigationTEACHING & COMMUNITY
Alongside my own studies, I help Class 12 students living in orphanages prepare for JEE physics and mathematics. Explore worked explanations in both subjects, with diagrams, intermediate steps, and practice questions.
Explore how the direction of a force determines its components, then use the diagram to work out an acceleration.
See how roots divide a number line into intervals, and why the sign changes between them.
INTERACTIVE LAB
The first and final polarizers stay at 0° and 90°. Rotate the middle axis and compare the intermediate and final intensity.
Iref is the intensity immediately after the first 0° polarizer. For unpolarized light before it, all displayed values gain an additional factor of ½.
Expected final values: 0° → 0%, 30° → 18.75%, 45° → 25%, 60° → 18.75%, 90° → 0%.
